Spirit of Places

Spirit of Places came about as my first retrospective photography show, compiling images of my first seven years as a photographer. This mindful approach to photography requires combining the raw elements of nature, with the elusive element of time, to create an image that resonates emotion and meaning, providing a broader understanding of the place.
Water’s Edge

This collection of images pays homage to the sea’s many attractions. As a photographer I’m constantly drawn to the sea, with its abundant bounty of compelling imagery. Lighthouses and boats hold particular appeal, as they seem to enjoy a near universal emotional resonance. Enjoy a sampling of my work from a compilation of images I call Water’s Edge, the name inspired by a series of poems on the sea.
The Pier Project

The Pier Project is a photographic study of place, for which I returned again and again, to the Grand Haven Lighthouse, to photograph it at various times of day, across the seasons and over the years. The resulting images remain my most requested work, an overview of which is provided in the following slideshow.
Notes from the Road

Boredom and fatigue overtake me, like some big rig hell bent for Omaha. I’m chasing broken white lines that stretch forth from here to the horizon. Westward I travel, traversing this lonely highway, across an expansive continent, through an autumn in advanced repose. How many times I’ve made this journey I can’t begin to count.
Scenic Ireland

Scenic Ireland is a photo gallery reflecting my love affair with Ireland. The connecting was forged one blissful July in 1997 when for 26 days I traveling by bike through the West. I’ve since moved to Ireland. For more than seven years Galway has been my home, providing a base to continue photographing the landscape of Ireland.
Thanksgiving in the Desert

Scenes from the Parker Family Thanksgiving, an annual excursion set among the semi-wild Sonoran desert lands outside of the Phoenix. Each year we travel afar to convene in Carefree Arizona for a traditional celebration of food and family. The simplicity and purity of the event makes it an annual favorite.
Skiing with the Parker Boys

Scenes from a memorable spring break in Colorado, where I responded to the call for some skiing, flying across the ocean and traversing a Continent to make some turns with the next generation of Parkers! How great to see the tradition continues!
Aidan Rides a Bike

Images from a visit back home, when I was able to witness a very special moment in any family. My nephew Aidan’s first (training-wheels free) bike ride. Certainly one for the memory books!
Travels in Languedoc

Highlights of a week traveling through Languedoc region of France during autumn of 2009, a highly relaxed and inspired journey, punctuated with frequent visits to the region’s myriad of wineries.
Little Traverse Conservancy

Among my favorite projects over the last decade has been my ongoing work with the Little Traverse Conservancy. Over nearly ten years of photography work, I’ve provide the images necessary to help protect protected thousands of critical farmland, shoreline and wildlife habitat throughout Northern Michigan.
Family Fun

Images from my journey back home to Grand Haven during the Summer of 2009. Such a fabulous time of year to be back home, to experience and appreciate Grand Haven in its finest form.
