These
images were photographed on assignment for Seattle's
Maritime Heritage Foundation, who hosted the Tall
Ships Seattle 2002 event. Over two dozen vessels
participated in the four day event, which was
wildly popular, attracting an estimated 200,000
attendees. The event was a wild success, for the
organization and for me. My assignment was to
chronicle the event from beginning to end. From
sunup to sundown I worked to convey the allure
of these spectacular vessels, flailing about Greenpeace
activist in a rubber dingy, blowing my eardrums
to document the canon's fire, lying on the
dock among goose droppings, I had a whale of a
time. When the fleet finally set sail from left
Lake Union, if responsibility hadn't been
tugging at my sleeve, I'd have a crew member
bound for San Francisco or even South America.
Few decisions I regret in life, except for maybe
that one. |
