Growing up on the shores of Lake Michigan, in a town
called Grand Haven, I was instilled with certain core
values, most importantly a love of the outdoors and
a sneaking suspicion that the world was a big and
interesting place, far more so than contained within
the its cozy confines.
Responding to the allure of wide open spaces and
snow-capped peaks, I followed Interstate 80 westward
first to Boulder, CO, where after skiing 300 days
in four years I earned a business degree from CU,
and onward to Alta Utah, for a five month immersion
into powder skiing. Followed Interstate 84 to the
Seattle, I cultivated big city sophistication and
an acute coffee addiction, the caffeine from which
fueled the tutelage required for a M.S. degree in
Environmental Planning from the U.Washington.
The degree provided at least enough prestige to earn
the title "wilderness ranger." For seven years I donned
olive and khaki and patrolled the wild lands of the
American West, first in the Olympic Mtns of Washington,
then the Central Rockies of Colorado. It was as a
ranger surrounded by such rugged beauty, that inspired
me to pursue photography in earnest. (see where it
began) Since selling my first images in 1995, my work
has appeared in numerous publications, art shows and
gallery exhibits. Clients routinely draw upon my skills
to help promote their organizations and programs.
These days I've taken up residence in Galway, Ireland.
In addition to photography, I've further cultivated
my skills in writing and web design. Recent projects
have been in the realm of tourism marketing, helping
promote Irish holidays to an American audience. Armed
with knowledge and strong passion for the place, I've
also employed my skills as a part-time tour operator
and guide.
